My Story

Hi! I am so exited to be a part of your journey to freedom. I was in an abusive relationship for over 19 years. I am now free and living my best life. I can remember feeling hopeless, scared, doubting my own thoughts, and trapped. Leaving was something I did many times and went back to my abuser thinking they had changed. Making the decision to leave for good was something I wish I had done so much sooner. I could have saved my children and myself from so much hurt. I did not see myself as being abused. In my mind I was not being abused. I can remember when I went to a therapist, and she told me I was a victim of abuse, and I tried to argue with her. I was convinced that I was not a victim. My abuser had conditioned me to think that I was the one in the wrong, I made them do the things they did, it was my fault they abused/mistreated/humiliated me. Early on in my relationship I went to a mental institution and told them all the things I was told about myself and how I had a problem and needed help. They recognized immediately that I was a victim of abuse. They told me that nothing was wrong with me. They said I needed to get as far away from my abuser as possible and cut all ties. I was so upset. I just knew I was in need of help, and they would not help me. That is how blind I was to my abuse. My abuser had groomed me and conditioned me to the point I thought I was responsible for how I was being treated. If you are not ready to open your eyes to the abuse, I understand. The best advice I was given in the beginning was to educate myself on narcissistic behavior, gas lighting, and emotional abuse. The facts you will read about these topics will help you to see. When you are ready to heal, thrive, and live your best life, I will be here to support you. Empoweringuhub.com also has a Pinterest account that has links to information from other helpful sites that can help you on your journey. My hope is that my story will empower you to begin your journey.
